About 1 1/2 years ago, my daughter and I decided we wanted another dog. My dog had been with me for a long time. She is now almost thirteen years old. So, we went in search of some great orphan who needed a home.

My sister just happened to be at the pet store buying who-knows-what when she peeked at the pups the rescue group had in their travel kennel. There were a number of pups from the same litter in there that were absolutely adorable. However, as is usually the case, there was that one. Yes, this was my new baby. He was sweet but shy. We were told he was a "boxer-mix" which I am still doubting to this day. I just don't see it!

We take this pup home and he actually gets along very well with my old lady who is already there. In fact, she started playing a little like she did when she was younger. All of a sudden, she was interested in toys and cuddling! It was very similar to getting two new dogs. Of course, his worms and other nasties from the shelter were a little gross, but we took care of all that in no time.

He is a little crazy now. Forget about inviting someone into our home. He bites and barks like a mad dog. This is great for strangers who come knocking, but I would like friends over occasionally without all the noise. I've become a big fan of the Dog Whisperer in my search for some help for us.

Why the story about my crazy pup? Well, I was reading this morning about the dog in Australia who sat barking by his owner's body following a car accident. The dog just sat and barked until someone finally found them two days later. Wow. I started wondering if my crazy dog would ever do something like this. Then I stopped wondering and started praying that nothing would ever happen like this!

I love my dog despite whatever mental problems he seems to have. He's renewed like in my older dog, brought joy to my daughter, and makes me feel safe. Although I have given serious thought to returning him to the shelter, I just can not bring myself to let him go.
